Randy Scott, Ph.D., Executive ChairmanRandy Scott

"Genomic Health is more than just a business—it is our quest to make a difference by helping friends and loved ones manage a challenging disease. The company was founded with a focus on cancer because we believe there is an immediate opportunity to impact the quality of care for cancer patients and their families."

"Our first diagnostic test, Oncotype DX, was developed to improve the quality of treatment decisions for women with breast cancer. We believe this is a significant advance and the beginning of a whole new approach to understanding and treating cancer at the molecular level. We believe that correlating genomic information with clinical outcomes and making that information available to individual patients and their healthcare providers can have a profound effect on the quality of care. That is why we conducted multiple large clinical studies with world-renowned clinical research groups to validate Oncotype DX."

"Our passion is to combine our collective experience in the scientific and business worlds in building a successful company, as measured by the difference we make for cancer patients. We believe that putting the patient´s healthcare interests first is the core strength of our business, and that nothing could be more rewarding than knowing that we can impact clinical decision making for cancer patients."

Randy Scott, Ph.D. has served as Executive Chairman since January 2009. Prior to serving as Chairman, Randy served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer from August 2000 through January 2009. Randy was a founder of Incyte Corporation, a genomic information company, and served Incyte in various roles, including Chairman of the Board from August 2000 to December 2001, President from January 1997 to August 2000 and Chief Scientific Officer from March 1995 to August 2000. "Like many of my colleagues, it is my personal experience with cancer that drives my passion to change the way we diagnose and treat this complex disease that touches so many lives. As we gain greater understanding of the biology of cancer, we have an opportunity and a responsibility to develop tools that arm both physicians and patients with personalized genomic information to individualize the treatment of a patient´s disease. With the advent of biologics and new targeted therapeutics, the menu of treatment options for patients with cancer is growing. It is our mission to develop tests that employ the biology of an individual´s specific tumor to help physicians select appropriate treatments from this expanding menu. We are entering an era where we have the information and means to transform "one-size-fits-all" medicine to a world where treatment is truly personalized. We remain steadfast in our mission to provide cancer patients with access to information that can empower them to better manage their disease. Oncotype DX is the beginning. Our commitment is to set no limit on the end."

Kim Popovits has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since January 2009 and as President and Chief Operating Officer since January 2002. From November 1987 to February 2002, Kim served in various roles at Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company, most recently as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales from February 2001 to February 2002, and as Vice President, Sales from October 1994 to February 2001. "Success is defined many times in life as doing something very well and sometimes only one thing. That can be true in business as well, and we have chosen treatment for patients with cancer as a singular focus by which to measure success. In doing so we have the opportunity to do the right thing very well for the benefit of medicine, patients, physicians, payers and the healthcare system overall. Having seen both family members and friends die from cancer in recent years, I can think of no better way to spend my day than helping others who will be faced with similar circumstances in the future.”

"Genomic Health was founded to take advantage of developments in three areas:

1) decades of worldwide accumulation of scientific knowledge about cancer pathology at the cellular, molecular and genomic level

2) the continuous development of increasingly sensitive and precise laboratory technologies for quantifying genomic information

3) the development of scientific computing technology that permits the storage and analysis of vast amounts of genomic information

It is an exciting fact that progress in each of these three areas continues at a rapid pace. As a result, it is clear that the era of personalized medicine for cancer patients has not only arrived, but has a very bright future."

Joffre Baker, Ph.D. has served as Chief Scientific Officer since December 2000. From March 1997 to October 2000, Joffre served as Vice President for Research Discovery at Genentech, Inc. Steve Shak, M.D., Chief Medical OfficerSteve Shak

"We urgently need new and more effective approaches to cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

In the 20th century, with few diagnostic tests to select the right treatment for individual cancers, physicians treated cancer with a “one size fits all” approach.

At Genomic Health, we have developed innovative, standardized, quantitative methods for profiling individual cancers. Cancer drugs can be (targeted) if we are able to discover and develop diagnostic tests to identify which patients are likely to benefit from them. We are using the same rigorous approach used in the clinical development and validation of the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay to develop tests for other tumor types. We passionately believe that cancer molecular diagnostics will play an indispensable role in treatment planning for all cancer patients and will help turn cancer into a manageable, and ultimately preventable, disease. "

Steve Shak, M.D. has served as Chief Medical Officer since December 2000. From July 1996 to October 2000, Steve served in various roles in Medical Affairs at Genentech, Inc., most recently as Senior Director and Staff Clinical Scientist. From November 1989 to July 1996, Steve served as a Director of Discovery Research at Genentech, where he was responsible for Pulmonary Research, Immunology and Pathology. Steve led the clinical team that gained approval for Herceptin®, a targeted biologic treatment for breast cancer. He also initiated the cancer clinical trials of the anti-angiogenesis agent, anti-VEGF (Avastin®). In addition, Steve discovered Pulmozyme®, a mucus-dissolving enzyme that is approved worldwide for the treatment of the genetic disease cystic fibrosis. Prior to joining Genentech, Steve was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at New York University School of Medicine. David Logan, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Commercialization David Logan

"When my journey at Genomic Health began very few physicians, insurance companies and, most importantly, patients knew there was a new test that could improve the way newly diagnosed breast cancer patients were treated. Our challenge (or as we say in sales, opportunity) was to educate and change treatment behavior, one physician, payor and patient at a time. So a dedicated team representing all functions of our company set out to shift the one-size-fits-all chemotherapy treatment paradigm. Of all the things we accomplished, I am most proud of the financial assistance and access programs that we established allowing patients to focus on making the best possible treatment decision without the burden of financial barriers. Today we can truly say we have made a significant difference in how breast cancer is evaluated and treated."

David Logan has served as Executive Vice President, Worldwide Commercialization since February 2010. David served as Senior Vice President, Commercial, since December 2007 and as the Vice President of Sales (Managed Care, Operations and Sales) from 2003 through 2007. Prior to Genomic Health, David served in various roles at Genentech, Inc., most recently as Vice President of Specialty Therapeutics (Sales and Marketing) in 2002, and prior to that he held Senior Director, Director and Management positions in Marketing/Sales, Managed Care and Sales Operations from 1987 to 2002. Prior to joining Genentech, David held positions in sales and sales management at Pfizer Inc. after spending four years in the United States Army. David holds Bachelor of Arts degree in communications/marketing from the University of Alabama.

"It’s thrilling to be part of a company from its early days and to witness a group of smart, passionate people bring a vision to reality, but it is a real privilege to be responsible for telling the world about it. The story of Oncotype DX and the power of personalized medicine is one that has captured a lot of attention. But it wouldn’t have received more than a passing notice if the people of Genomic Health hadn’t insisted on scientific and clinical rigor and on world-class customer support for physicians and patients. And it would not have happened if not for the brave heroes -- the breast and colon cancer patients -- whose stories shape, inform and inspire our work on a daily basis. And best of all, Genomic Health’s story has just begun!"
